I have admit, I am a podcast Fan Boy.
I have been listening to podcasts for the past 4 years, many of the same ones the whole time. I have also been producing audio content, starting at KPSU 1450 AM here in Portland Oregon, for the past 3 years. I am currently the host of the podcast The Face of Media and I host the program PDX Gen-Y at PDX.FM. From my undergrad at Portland State University to the construction of my own home studio, I have fully embraced the nuances of podcasting. The next step in this journey is definitely the development of a much richer community here in Portland around the profession.
I am calling for the creation of a PodCamp for Portland in 2010. It will be called, “PodCamp Portland 2010″!
As someone who doesn’t like to sit on the sidelines of life I am being proactive and reaching out to the audio “hay-makers” of this fine town and trying to understand their level of interest in birthing a new effort to bring together like minds. It is going to take a team to launch this event, but I think Portland is up to the task as collaboration is the name of the game. But who, specifically, should I reach out to for this brave campaign?
During my research of previous attempts to start a PodCamp Portland I ran across a man by the name of Joe Evans. Apparently Joe had attempted to start a PodCamp Portland in the past but due to circumstances outside of his control it never really took off. This was back in 2008. Enter 2010 and a renewed interest in the success of local podcasters, things are looking much brighter for a successful PodCamp Portland.
In the coming months there will be several new announcements concerning the developments that are under way for PodCamp Portland. Rest assured, that this year, 2010, there will be a PodCamp Portland.
